Diners at Maggie's Mercantile will likely find citrus "spare ribs," coconut "shrimp" and buffalo "chicken" on the menu, but if you look more closely, you'll discover these offerings are meatless -- made from soy or veggies in keeping with the restaurant's vegetarian and vegan menu. (Even the "cheese" atop the fried potato wedges and some entrees is nondairy.) Although the menu is never static, you might be fortunate enough to catch standouts like sesame tofu with onions, peppers and a hint of tamari, as well as the marinated-portobello sandwich and spinach-porcini mushroom pie. Also a plus: Maggie's uses locally grown organic produce whenever possible. This is a great place to meet for a casual lunch, with the cool-but-comfy atmosphere of a cafe. If you crave carnivorous cuisine, try Maggie's instead for mouthwatering meatless dishes.

maggie on maggie's
By OOHMAHNEE on 06/22/2008
of course I love Maggie's and want everyone else to as well however, the photo on this site is of the old Maggie's on Atwood Street...the new Maggie's is at 300 South Craig Street and opened in March. The menu includes old favorites and new inventions and has also expanded to include raw foods. Everything is organic...seasonally, it comes from my own farm near Greensburg and the rest of the year, organics are imported from a local distributor.

Cake to die for!
By yehs on 09/15/2004
Enjoyed everything at Maggie's - totally -- but the peanutbutter chocolate cake was to die for! Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery and I had to go home and start experimenting on how to recreate this divine creation. What I have come up with is quit good -- but still does not match the real thing at Maggie's!
