Question: What do U.S. bars, English pubs, German bierhallen and Belgian herbergen have in common? Answer: They all serve beers found at the Market Street Ale House. With its old-timey title and vintage, inlaid-wood interior, the Ale House is a touchstone for businesspeople, Point Park students and a diverse happy hour crowd. If you forget the corner TV, it's easy to imagine the Ale House a half-century ago, with taps pouring frothy cold ones for merchants wearings suspenders and loosened ties. Today, the bar can seat more than 20, and the sandwich-and-fries-style pub fare is a nice British complement to Flemish darks and American microbrews. Steal a few friends from their cubicles and try some soup at lunchtime, then come back and toss back some mugs as old-timers trade gossip about the Pirates. Market Square may be packed with bars, but at the Ale House, you know the brews are cold and the company's good.
