But Max's is still here -- it just had to drop the "Erma's" from its old name. Serving up a tantalizing array of traditional German fare, Max's offers sausages, shnitzels and a unique variety of Old World favorites, including "hasenpfeffer" (braised rabbit in a spiced red sauce). But food isn't all that Max's has to offer. The place is stunning, with much of the original woodwork still intact. The solid oak icebox at the bar has been keeping beers cold for over a century. A cast-iron stove and beautiful, stained-glass lighting fixtures remind us of Max's rich legacy -- a throwback to its humble beginnings as a hotel in Pittsburgh's original "Dutchtown."
