Devoted fans don't mind Mineo's plain-Jane interior -- they're too busy chowing down on some of the city's most sought-after slices. Booths on each side of the space and a two-sided counter down the center lead you to the order counter in back, with the menu posted overhead. Looking around, you can't help but notice that every square inch of wall is covered with two things: pictures of the same small, dark-eyed children in various poses with food, and a veritable gallery of awards for Best Pizza. (It seems every publication in the region has recognized Mineo's for its superb pies.) With a slew of toppings to choose from, it's easy to build countless varieties here. Mineo's also offers pasta dishes, such as chicken parmigiana and ravioli, and some great sloppy subs, as well. There's no delivery -- only pickup and eat-in -- and the whole place probably seats fewer than 50. You can't even get a fountain drink: Mineo's serves only bottled juices, teas and soft drinks. But the phone never stops ringing, and people are forever lined up at the counter -- testaments to Mineo's incredible popularity.

YEA, MINEO'S Jane Swanson 07.04.08
By Jesesquire on 07/04/2008
I came to Pgh in '77, found Mineo's and was a loyal patron for 20+ years . . . But no more! That's because they opened a real clone in Mt. Lebanon, so that I can stay close to home and still rejoice. They not only cloned all their menu and methods, but brought one or two of their best Squirrel Hill employees, too. (Do NOT confuse with Dormont's by the same name.) I love their lasagna, too, and other great take-out stuff and hand-dipped ice cream. jesesquire
