As the world headquarters of the Pittsburgh Rugby Club and the only rugby-themed bar in the city, Ruggers often feels more like a clubhouse than a proper watering hole. Though the action can get rowdy after games and practices, you'll find an overwhelmingly friendly bunch here, and strangers are always welcome. Previously a rough-and-ready bar called Characters, Ruggers has made impressive strides in decoration and interior design: The walls are a potpourri of local rugby memorabilia, while handsome wooden shelves boast a collection of winning trophies. The bar and tables are spotless. As for the menu, pub fare and simple mixed drinks are available, but domestic drafts are definitely the name of the game. Finally, a South Side bar off the main drag that's affordable, clean and attitude-free. Pour us another!
