For every type of Asian cuisine, there's a Pittsburgh restaurant that specializes in serving it: Indica, Typhoon, Nakama are just a few of the city's big names. But Soba doesn't limit itself to a particular Asian angle; it takes the whole continent by storm. Whether you're hungering for lamb curry or sashimi, pad thai or beef teriyaki, Soba serves it all. Crafted by acclaimed chef Kevin Sousa, Soba's menu is a splash of traditional and new wave. Your head and stomach will refuse to collaborate as you try to decide between tuna tartar (soaked in wasabi-mirin sauce) or vegetarian chow fun. Peruse the wine menu and you'll find more than 40 varieties by the glass. Soba boasts an elegant interior, with romantic tables for two and windows overlooking beautiful Ellsworth Avenue. With such Oriental majesty at this spot, most guests wouldn't trade a night at Soba for all the tea in China.

Worst Restaurant in Pittsburgh
By amandopolis on 08/26/2007
I ate here with my boyfriend, and not only were the hosts rude, the food was horrible. The only thing that kept me from marching the shit they served me right back to the kitchen was our friendly waitress. But seriously, for $25 I expect a lot better than a piece of vacuum packed salmon thrown on a grill (they didn't even ask me for a temp) with literally no seasoning whatsoever. My boyfriend's duck was over cooked. Everything was bland and boring. Our g&ts were flat, and took so long to sort out, we couldn't even order wine with dinner. The microgreens on our (booooring) tuna tartar were wilted and brown. This place expects you to fall for the high prices and think you're getting something good, when really you're just getting the same food you could get a block down at the Harris for cheaper.

Service couldn't have been better, however, the food at the prices was mediocre. I had the Pad Thai. Can you say bland?

Want to meet new people? go to the Soba Lounge. Unique menu in an interesting environment. They have the most friendly wait staff in the Pgh area. Enjoy!
