Built in 1886, this ivy-covered, Romanesque house, built by Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow, originally was the home of Dr. James H. McClelland, the founder of Shadyside Hospital. Now it's a restaurant and boutique hotel, but Sunnyledge retains an air of elegance in its paneled downstairs rooms -- from its library, boasting the works of O. Henry, Rudyard Kipling and Winston Churchill, to its fine Rachel McClelland paintings, to its handsome martini bar. Among the options on a dinner menu swimming with seafood are bronzed sea bass with tomato-cucumber salsa, and roasted rack of lamb stuffed with garlic goat cheese and served with rosemary sauce. The lunch menu goes beyond the ordinary with dishes such as a lobster club and Mediterranean swordfish croissant. Sunday brunch offers temptations from simple (and simply delicious) flapjacks to spinach, mushroom and goat cheese in phyllo. Stop in for high tea in the afternoon, when you can also enjoy oven-fresh scones, tartlettes and sandwiches. The mood at Sunnyledge is business-casual, and high-income travelers and local businesspeople make up the clientele. With an atmosphere that echoes that of a chic dinner party, Sunnyledge brings new meaning to the phrase "home-style dining."

Dinner last night at Sunnyledge was incredible! Our party sat outside on the porch overlooking the hustle and bustle of Shadyside. I was told the restaurant had just begun offering its new menu created and prepared by their new chef who was previously with the Ritz Carlton in Naples. I was quite pleased with both the plate presentation as well as the quality and flavor of the meal. I highly recommend Sunnyledge for dinner.
