In a world increasingly populated by vegetarians and fad dieters, it's a relief to know not everyone is watching his or her waistline. Good food is a given in Bloomfield, but Tessaro's is the unapologetic black sheep of Little Italy. Instead of the neighborhood's famous pasta, this joint serves burgers -- big, juicy burgers fit to rival any in the city. Pittsburghers crowd into booths and belly up to the bar for the beefy magic of Tessaro's half-pound, hand-slapped patties, all prepared at a fully visible hardwood grill. Fresh meat allows for the medium-rare grilling most other restaurants won't indulge, while non-burger fans can slice into a massive pork chop or a prime cut of tender sirloin. The recipient of dozens of local awards, Tessaro's balances the smoky, low-lit informality of a neighborhood saloon with the high quality of a solid family restaurant. These days, such burger joints are on the rare side.

Still very good BUT
By lskywkr66 on 08/29/2008
I have long been a fan of Tessaro's however the past two times, July and August of this year I believe they are succunbing to more commercial made burgers. The burgers are not the hand made ones they use to be fron fresh ground beef. You can tell by the texture and appearance and bite. The burgers are still good, but now just an a par with numerous other places. Red Beards on Shilo Street has a bigger and more li hand made burger, as does Rice's Landing on Mt Royal Blvd and the Shadow wood Lounge on McKnight. Nuf said

The best but -- SHHHH -- don't tell anyone
By Energyflak on 07/10/2008
We have gone to Tessaro's for burgers, steak, fresh fish for years. In fact, our family decided that in the case of a national emergency, Tessaro's will be our designated gathering place. But don't tell anyone how good it is. There's already a wait most nights and I don't want it to get worse. Even better that the food are the owners and staff. They treat everyone like beloved family members. It is a very special place.
