From above ground it doesn't look like much -- a narrow, dusty little space next door to the large and generally boisterous Berbati's. But make your way past the tough-looking bouncers and head to the back and down the stairs. Underground, you'll find a wickedly exotic low-ceilinged space with private booths, perfect for plotting your next nefarious adventure. The drinks are cheap and very strong, so exercise moderation. On weekends, the Tunnel can get insanely crowded, so it's a great spot to visit on a quieter off night, when you can imagine wicked men from long ago skulking around Portland's streets looking for potential and unwilling sailors to shanghai. It can get smoky down there, so eating might be the furthest thing from your mind, but if you're so inclined, the kitchen offers tasty Asian-influenced treats.

Sounds like the tour given by Micheal Jones- Cascade geographic society- has a better tour and proceeds go to the preservation of the tunnels
