Dingy but better than ...
House of Louie is a typical dingy Portland Chinese restaurant but its dim sum offerings are better than most of the other ones in the neighborhood. It's regular menu offerings are also typical -- in other words, nothing to write home to mother about. The place does have the advantage of being the largest in the neighborhood and Sunday morning is the time to bring a large group in for dim sum brunch and famous people watching.
Cockroaches
We were having lunch when a ********* scampered across our table.
Yes, old downtown restaurants may have some cockroaches. But so many that they use the tabletops as freeways WHILE the customer is eating is disgusting. This chinese restaurant experience was a little too authentic for me.
When I told the waitress what happened she did not care. They charged us the full price for the meal.
I called the health department and they said that the restaurant had been shut down previously for bug problems and that they had reopened after putting a pest control program in place.
My Recommendation: Do not eat at this restaurant until they take the pest problem seriously and kill the bugs!
Food Posioning is dangerous to the young, elderly and those with compromised immune systems.
discoqueen
My husband and I go to House of Louie quite frequently. We always can expect the har gow, pork shu mai, rice noodle and the sweet tofu dessert to be consistently great!
a little spendy but good
This place has exelent Dim Sum. I've been there about once a year since i was five. A few complaints are:
1)there are somethings i don't like.
2)it's to easy to eat to much.
