Hunan Restaurant   

I am a constant customer of the real Hunan restaurant in San Francisco (and one in Victoria, BC) and know Hunan style dishes like the back of my hand. Portland's Hunan restaurant has very few really Hunan style items on its menu and most of those items are only pretending. It's a nice restaurant and the food is a bit better than OK but it is in no danger of serving up real Hunan style food. Unfortunately, most Chinese restaurants in Oregon fail to produce anything like what can be found as routine in San Francisco or Victoria or even Vancouver, BC.

WE LOVE Hunans! They make the best General Tso's Chicken that we have ever had, as it is not breaded like most other chinese restaurants. Another favorite is Hunan's Lovers Shrimp, it is heaven! We believe the prices to be very reasonable for such an elegant place. We only go there 2x a year and the waitress always remembers our order! As far as authentic, China has MANY different provinces with different cooking styles and tastes, Hunan style is just one and Hunan restaurant IS authentic!

If you want real Chinese food, go to...Chinatown. If you want pretend Chinese food, go to the suburbs or to Hunan. If you are intimidated by "mystery dishes", then this is the place for you.

Our family drives 20 miles to eat the General Tso's Chicken, it is simply the best Chinese food around.
