A vast mural sweeps across the north wall over a bank of tables. Massive mirrors reflect the crowd at the bar on the other side. Rectangular paper chandeliers hang from the ceiling. The mood is diffusive and chic, drawing crowds of the young and hip on weekends. The focus is pan-Asian (Japan to Southeast Asia) with an ever-changing menu of a half dozen solo entrees, but don't expect to see a fusion cultural mix on your plate. Much of what you will eat, though, is based on fresh, organic produce with an emphasis on local meats and fish. Thai and Korean specialties (especially the seafood) reign supreme at Saucebox. Crisp, chilled edamame is the much-heralded star starter attraction; buttery hamachi with avocado comes in second. The wine list is spendy with some oddball selections, but it's the creative cocktails that are the draw. Intriguing options include the ginseng martini, cucumber lemonade and wild Coconut Lime Rickey. For dessert, try the coconut sorbet or banana turnovers. Every night after 10PM, the crisp white tablecloths come off, the DJ comes on and the place transforms into a luxury lounge. Private dining and reception-style events can be reserved on the second level for Mondays and Tuesdays when the restaurant is otherwise closed. -- Jo Ostgarden

I have dined at Saucebox since its opening in 1995. It continues to be one of my favorite restaurants. The food, drinks and music are unique and always consistent. I crave their signature dishes and they have the BEST cocktail menu in the city. I always take friends from out-of-town to Saucebox and they always love it as much as I do.
