Uncomplicated and spare, yet sweetly elegant, this neighborhood cafe calls to mind a trattoria tucked away down some quiet street in a small village in Italy. A small scattering of linen covered tables are well spaced throughout an equally small dining room framed by big storefront windows. Brown butcher paper on the tables not only allows for fast cleanups between guests, but also keeps younger diners sufficiently occupied until dinner arrives. Parents with children will be happy to know that their offspring are well accommodated without offending the sensibilities of other diners. The menu reflects the ambience, with its calculated simplicity. Selections include three salads, a few starters (olives, soup and a cheese plate), seven basic pasta dishes, including spaghetti and mac and cheese, and a selection of pizzas (including a Northwest version made with garlic, gorgonzola, caramelized onions, walnuts and rosemary). Dessert is equally simple with only two options: ice cream with homemade chocolate sauce or homemade cookies. The very affordable wine menu includes chianti and classico served in short juice glasses. This sweet spot may have limited offerings, but you won't walk away feeling shortchanged.
