For vegetarians with carnivorous pals, deciding where to grab some grub can feel like a missile- treaty negotiation. The folks over at the Vita Cafe know the drill. They've created a cheerful diner, decked out in bright colors and warm decor, that welcomes all types of eaters. This place answers the culinary version of, "Can't we all just get along?" Non-meat-eating diners can choose from a fairly extensive menu of vegan and vegetarian dishes, including salads that never met a pesticide. The more savage types can chow on free-range beef burgers and other meaty delights. Some of the tofu dishes, such as the fish and chips, or the chicken-fried tempeh steak, for instance, might even fool those carnivores into a healthier diet for a day. -- Joe Kurmaskie

I absolutely adore coming here and enjoying the eccentric foods! I am young and not a lot of my friends are vegan, like me. so when we dine at vita everyone is satisfied! **try the french fries cooked in peanut oil! it's my fav or the carrot cake! mmmm...!

i luv the vita
By shugalew on 04/28/2004
I have been eating at the Vita since it opened and only once have I not liked what passed through my lips and that was only a personal taste issue. Beware though that when it is busy the wait can be sorta long but it is well worth it. The "chicken fried steak" rocks my world every time and the country comfort breakfast is a great hang-over remedy! So in all, very moderate prices great food on a great street.

Excellent and interesting food. We love the soups and salads. Try the herb onion bread, or the tempeh chicken fried steak. Love the friendly staff and eclectic music choices. Fast becoming one of our favorite restaurants.
