Like the stereotypical 9-to-5 office drone, Bar 71 saves it all up for the weekends. The laid-back happy-hour crowds and a quiet weeknight scene give way every Friday and Saturday to a throng of young, good-looking singles flirting and dancing the night away. Excellent happy-hour food deals and sidewalk seating are the draws before the sun goes down. Poised between downtown's business and nightlife districts, the place is spacious and clubby, with amber lighting, an airy billiards room and comfy banquet seating. After dark, popular Top 40 and R&B DJs, along with radio station promotions, can draw large crowds. Add super-cheap martini specials and a reputation for one of the citys most wild and crazy singles scenes, and the result is often long lines at the front door. In summer, the outdoor courtyard patio is used as a dance floor, for more space and some much-needed fresh air.
