Genoa Restaurant   

This is by far the best restaraunt in Portland. It is an experience not to be missed. It took 2 weeks for reservations, but it was worth it! It takes a few hours, but it works perfectly with all of the courses. With as many courses as they serve, you leave feeling satisfied, not stuffed. You'll love the small, quaint atmosphere. And the VERY attentive wait staff. You will not be dissapointed at Genoas!!

We love great food and were looking forward to dinner with friends at Genoa after a two week wait. Yet the experience was disappointing and the food would not meet European standards for a fine restaurant Genoa is touted as. Genoa would likely not merit mention on Michelin. The waiter did a great job of 'selling' the various dishes, and three of the courses were very good; namely the primi, secondi, and the dessert. However, the salads and main courses would have qualified as average in any number of slightly above average restaurants. The salad, while fresh and well presented, was a mixture of various types of lettuce, with a light and bland house dressing; on a good day one could have eaten a similar salad at a family restaurant. The main courses that day were a young, free range, pan-roasted chicken, and a breaded and fried halibut. Our party ordered both offerings and I tasted both. The chicken was unexpectedly tough and somewhat chewy, and not thoroughly cooked (the skin was mostly a very pale brown and in many places white). The flavor was non-descript average. The fish was fresh, but could have compared favorably with breaded halibut available at Burgerville. Lastly, on that occasion the restaurant did not serve apperetivos like Campari, or espresso.
