In Raleigh, when bands come to town that are too small for ALLTEL Pavilion or the RBC Center and too big for the likes of places like the Lincoln Theater, they perform at Disco Rodeo. Bands that are beginning to make big waves in the music industry (as well as ones that used to tout superstar status but are now on their way down) can generally manage to fill this 2,500-capacity space. Most people still refer to this place as The Ritz, a venue that in the mid '90s drew bands like Sonic Youth, They Might Be Giants and 311. Disco Rodeo, however, doesn't put on nearly as many shows, and when they do, they tend to be either Latin or R&B. The venue itself, a converted warehouse, is a great place to hear live music. Front row seats on the U-shaped balcony are the most coveted. It's not fancy, and even the bar only sells a small selection of beer. But hey, you're there for the music, not the frills, right?
