If you love beach music, line dancing and just plain having a good ol' time, Red's Beach Music has got your number. Here, there's always something going on, whether it's shag lessons, ladies' night or playing host to one of the region's best beach music bands. Owner Red Hughes prides himself on pushing more bands through his doors than anyone else around. On any given night, expect local favorites such as The Band of Oz, The Embers or The Coastline Band. If the music is going, then count on the dance floor to be running over with shag and line dancers (and most of these folks aren't amateurs either). Before the end of the night, make sure you stop by and say ''hey'' to Red himself -- he stations himself on the left side of the bar up against the wall. Can't find him? Just ask somebody, because everyone knows him. Take note that the crowd here is an older one, so college students and twentysomethings may feel a little out of place.

never met a man so rude, dishonest, unethical, and manipulative... based on results, he can't seem to make things happen.....you cannot treat customers, bands, etc in the disrespectful and rude manner in which he does and be successful...i would never patronize a place of biz that this man owns - never, ever...

NEVER book a private party!
By brittbeme on 02/18/2007
I will never bring my business to Red's again and I will also never recommend this place to anyone either! After booking at private event with Red 6 months in advance, I found out 2 weeks before the event that hte club was closed for renovations. Red did not call to inform us of this--one of our guests called the club to get directions and was told they weren't opening for several more months! I had several phone calls with Red-two times he hung the phone up on me and yelled/cursed at me. He has yet to reimburse the deposit of 500.00 (the money was given to him in May of 2006--it is now Feb 2007). He will not return phone calls ( I have placed 4). Word has it that Red's is closing down--and I am not surprised--his business is doomed and it is directly related to how he deals with customers. He is incredibly rude and just does not get it! My advice--do not go there--tiny bar-hard to get a drink-small dance floor...very smoky! First he told me he has moving to Seaborad Ave--what a great location. Apparently his loan fell through so he was going to renovate...now he his voicemail says they are on capital blvd. He also had a deal in the work with Mission Valley and he backed out- I think he is in court right now for that. anyway-- don't do business with this fool!

Only as good as the owner - He is a jerk
By bmcleanshag on 03/20/2005
Red's was once the only place in town to shag. Even then, Red would get drunk, stand up on the bar and yell for everyone to get out, he was closing. Now there is some competition from the Longbranch and Loafers (greatest place to be). People continue going because that's where the singles go to dance with other singles. So, the cycle continues. Once, when Red offered barbecue for $1 and my date and I arrived a bit late and asked where the food was, the waitress said it had been put up but she brought each of us a plate. We had paid for the food and the cover at the door. She informed us that Red was charging us $5 per plate. I thought it was a joke until I saw her take our plates away while we were on the dance floor and Red threw the food in the floor. Never again. People gathered around and sympathized with him and had benefits when he was ill. Now he has reverted back to his old hateful self. See how many come out the next time he is sick.

crowd is an older crowd but some real good people, great tunes and good dance intstructors. The male bartender was very nice and talkative, good customer service. The manager seemed to be grouchy to me, needs better people skills. Overall a pretty good hangout.
