In its vast interior, The Pour House can entertain about 400 revelers. That's also about how many beers it seems to offer on tap at the full-service bar. One of the venues that has helped rejuvenate downtown as a nightlife destination, The Pour House has a strong inclination toward beer and live music. Local talent is deftly combined with regional acts, which has made the stage a staple on the area music scene. You can catch anything from homespun acoustic ensembles to straight funk and groove masters over the course of any given week. Beyond the stage-front mayhem, the couches in the back are an ideal spot for looking and lingering. Perhaps the best of both worlds, the balcony comes complete with pool tables and a view of the stage. -- Charles Norwood

The Pour House is a fabulous city music hall! The entrance alone, which is quite tucked into the wall, is worth a quick walk through. I haven’t seen anything else in the area like the Pour House. The bands can load right from the curb of Blount St. onto the stage inside the building. The staff here are a close-knit group of friends who are there to have a good time and promote the live music/open mic concept. The prices on the drinks are quite reasonable, with nightly drink specials that actually change! The beer on tap changes frequently as well to keep the variety going. The upstairs area is a special feature in a club as well. It’s easy and fun to navigate around the building, and you never know who you are going to end up talking to during the evening. I recently had the pleasure of spending the acoustic evening with John McEwan from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. He played to a very intimate group and it really was a special occasion. We had a great chat and to me, that’s not something that happens in all the area’s clubs. I’ve encountered a lot of local musicians here, who will stop and shmooze with anybody and that’s something important to me in a music hall.
