Looking for an eclectic tavern where you can hang out with trendy bohemians? Try the Rockford, where menu options often include the ABC sandwich (apples, bacon and cheddar), a signature crabcake sandwich and daily soup specials. Vegetarians may enjoy a house salad with blue cheese, walnuts and Granny Smith apples, the loaded pimento-cheese sandwich, and a daily-changing garden burger. From The Rockford's upstairs location, look down at the goings-on, or check out the crowd across the street at The Hibernian (although if you're hanging out at The Rockford, you're likely not to care). This trendy restaurant had regulars way back before Glenwood even had a scene, making this one of the old kids on the block.

THE Best Bar in Raleigh!!!
By d2debank on 10/17/2006
Great food...great atmosphere...STRONG drinks!!! This is the original Glenwood bar, being the first, before all the rest and when it was just a street instead of a News & Observer-given moniker ("Glenwood South"...yeesh....ick...). Anyway, the food is very good and inexpensive, not pretentious...a great place for a first or second date... And yes, you will see it all here...preppies, hipsters, young, old, etc.....a great place to chill...and their staff is pretty nice too... Drinks are well worth the average price and strong! This place is so good, I hate to spoil it by raving over it!

Cozy Place to Feel at Home in a Busy Area
By sweptawayy on 04/17/2000
Small and unpretensious, this bar/eatery is upstairs in an area of town that seems to have been overrun by, well, a lot of conforming preppy partiers. I found this place so comfortable. The mix of people was great-all ages, styles, and types. This was a fabulous place to have drinks with a few friends (and the food looked great too).
