The Family Garden florists do things their own way. In business for ten years, they have specifically avoided becoming an FTD member so that, according to co-owner Issy Ahkuoi, "We don't have to be like everyone else. We do our own creations." And create they do. Ahkuoi, who is Hawaiian, and the Family Garden's co-owner Leigh Cherry, specialize in exotic arrangements. They can put together a beautiful bouquet comprised of tropical flowers like orchids, gingers, and anthuriums or sell you a tropical houseplant that will warm up any bland decor. Their flair for creating unusual arrangements is such that Family Garden has even caught the eye of nearby universities Duke and Carolina, which call on the florists to create arrangements for special events.
