Many people liken the Jackpot to the Sting Ray, which was the casual hangout for the Raleigh underground scene for many years until it closed in 2002. However, it's not the looks of the place that makes you think this; it's the people. Former Sting Ray patrons, who also seem to show up regularly at the Rockford and Humble Pie, come here in decent numbers just about every night of the week for some good fun, sociopolitical conversation, pool and cheap beer. Grab a pitcher of PBR and grab one of the booths or rack 'em up and play some stick. Maybe you'll catch the spirit of ''Fast Eddie'' Nelson, one of the best pool players in history, who once played here when it was the Bourbon Street Social Club.
