If you think all Mexican restaurants are pretty similar with sombreros and ponchos donning the walls, a complimentary basket of chips and salsa and plates of food drenched in cheese, then wait until you try Jibarra. Located in North Raleigh's Peachtree Market, this upscale and modern eatery features what is probably the boldest and most innovative Mexican cuisine found anywhere in the Triangle. Dishes like cochinita pibil (pork marinated in annatto and sour oranges) and baby calamari in a squid ink-based black mole are just a couple of the exotic items on the menu. In addition to the dishes, also unique to Jibarra is that it houses the area's only tequila lounge featuring top-shelf liquors and a huge selection of the finest tequilas available. -- Erica Hinton
