As the home to three ACC teams, the Triangle has no shortage of places to get your sports fix. Near NC State, the best place to catch the game, whether you're keen on the college level or the pros, is at Playmakers. Brick walls, polished wooden bar tops and a large open space with exposed beams gives this sports bar a decidedly more contemporary feel than other area sports bars. Throw in the fact they've got eight 10-foot TVs, a bunch of smaller ones and 20 beers on tap and you've got one of the coolest places to cheer on your team. The all-barstool seating means you're always perched for a great view and the Bose surround sound system ensures you'll hear every play. On Tuesdays and Fridays when the sports action tends to be slower, move your attention to the stage for karaoke or test your knowledge with trivia. As a restaurant, Playmakers sports typical bar food like pizza, onion rings, chili, salads, quesadillas, sandwiches and burgers. They also claim to have the best wings in the Triangle with 11 sauces from mild honey mustard to enfuego (the Spanish word for fire).

You have some of the BEST singers around. A pleasure to listen to. I haven't heard Tara Lynn in awhile, she has a wonderful voice!!

It could be worse.

Playmakers is adequate as a sports bar. Oversized, overpriced, and generic. The average triangle resident should love it. They didn't have the NBA package last year and they call themselves a sports bar?! The bartenders were unattractive and lacked personality. They were also slow and preoccupied. If management can find some good looking girls to tend bar this place might be halfway decent.

Wednesday Night

There was some guy on stage reading something that no one way paying attention, and he was just making noise that was totally unneeded, but the rest was great. The big screen tvs are awesome and would be great to watch a major sporting event on, and the atmosphere other than the guy talking about who knows what, was pretty good.

Well, every town needs one . . . a place for all the boozers to go after work or class. However, the bartenders are excellent - knowledgeable and fast. Otherwise, Playmakers is your standard sports bar - you know, just like the other 3 dozen in town - a few video monitors, that hand-held interactive game, and the under 30 crowd. Oh, it is housed in the former wonder bread bakery for what its worth. Otherwise, nothing really stands out about this place.
