When it's a big fat burger with fries, a freshly poured pint and a game on the tube, North Raleigh residents don't have to head to a loud sports bar -- Sawmill Tap Room fits the bill just fine. This spot is actually one of five sister restaurants with a similar feel and menu, but no one's complaining. No matter which restaurant you visit, there's a friendly neighborhood feel. The staff will try to get you started with a basket of their famous pickle chips. Fried to a crisp and served with dressing, this dish is a guilty pleasure for many. But it's not all fried pub fare; nontraditional items include Cobb and Cajun Caesar salads, grilled tuna steak, Bourbon shrimp and meatloaf. Of course, there is the customary menu of burgers, sandwiches, fries and onion rings. Meat-eaters will probably gravitate toward the full rack of baby-back ribs, the Angus sirloin or the popular Carolina chili burger. And don't forget to round out the meal with pint: More than 25 beers on tap and even more in bottles means there's something to go with every meal.
