In ShortDiners enter through leaded glass doors to stand in front of an ornate staircase. Linen-covered tables are placed throughout several lavish rooms. Warm tones and gentle candlelight add the finishing touches to this romantic setting. Start with the flavorful "Sapelo Mud River" clams, steamed perfectly and enhanced with Italian sausage. For entrees, the sauteed diver scallops over smoked duck and the roasted Australian lamb rack in a white truffle lamb jus are both top notch.

Perfectly Wonderful Experience
By bcbreese on 05/23/2005
My husband and I recently celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Second Empire. We cannot say enough nice things about this place. The staff were so pleasant and helpful and really took their time answering our many questions about the impressive menu. The food is the best we've had in Raleigh and priced reasonably for the quality. We will absolutely return!

Classy
By candace036 on 04/13/2005
This is a class of restaurant you dont usually see in Raleigh. Having dined in some of the nicest "big city" resturants both here and abroad. Second Empire is Raleigh's answer for the diner who appreciates real class and elegance. If your looking for big meal at a fair price's, Raleigh is full of them. This place is reserved for the sophisticated diner.

Too Expensive, Snooty attitudes
By moonstrucklights on 02/24/2005
I thought I would try Second Empire even though my friend warned me about how expensive it was. I should have listened to him. I should have spent my money on a nice gift for my fiance instead. The attitudes of some of the hired help (including the so-called chef) was like they were better than the customers. If I wanted to be looked down upon, I would have stayed in boot camp! I will not go back and neither will my fiance. We wasted our time and money there.

The Best in Raleigh
By walkerncsu on 02/12/2005
This restaurant was the BEST restaurant I've been to in Raleigh. If you're looking for a romantic evening of fine dining then this is definitely the place. Everything about the restaurant including food, service, and ambiance was outstanding. Let’s just say that I thought this restaurant was so nice and romantic that I decided to propose to my girlfriend there and the staff went out of there way to make the occasion even more special. I had forgotten my camera so the OWNER took pictures with his personal camera and e-mailed the pictures to me. That’s dedication to service.
