If you like to gamble and arent afraid of the dark, then grab a Budweiser at the Brass Rail. Located in downtown Rapid City, the Brass Rail is home to nocturnal folks trying to strike it rich at the half-dozen video lottery machines lining its walls. The shades are drawn, even at mid-day, and cigarettes lay smoldering in ashtrays on the tables scattered around the bar. (Youd better LOVE to smoke, because youre gonna be one stinky sister when you leave this place.) The bar has been around awhile, and if youre in town long enough, youll see quite a few regulars walking in the door. If youve already blown your cash on souvenirs, or just feeling a little more active, you can try your hand at darts or sidle on over to the jukebox and pick out some country favorites or classic rock tunes (not that anyone will dance, of course). Theres usually some sports program on the TV, and the locals are a good source of information about area attractions. The bars draft selection is pretty limited -- Bud, Bud Light, and Miller Lite -- but theres more than enough liquor to go around. The Brass Rail opens at 7:30am Monday through Saturday, so even if you dont make it there on your first night in town, you can go the next morning. --Laura Loftus
