Stop by the Corn Exchange for some of Rapid Citys most sophisticated fare at reasonable prices. New York City transplant M.J. Adams and her husband took a chance that South Dakotans had a taste for more than just steak and burgers, and began to introduce folks in Rapid City to their creative cooking. A typical lunch menu may include a bowl of soup with mixed greens, roasted vegetable sandwich on foccacia with goat cheese and black olive paste, or grilled duck sausage with caramelized onions. The Corn Exchanges dinner offerings sound just as Martha Stewart-y: Tuscan tomato and white bean soup, Belgian endive, grilled quail, and other equally interesting entrees. The restaurants extensive wine list features a bottle or glass to complement any meal. Besides serving high-brow foods, the Corn Exchange has a great-looking interior. The floor- to ceiling front windows make for an airy and bright feel, as do the cheery yellow walls, copper bar, and light wood tables and booths. Theres a bit of rustic thrown in too, with hardwood floors, an exposed brick wall and pounded copper ceilings. Youll know the place by the hand-forged iron corn husk hanging above the front door. Make sure you have enough cash on hand though because the restaurant doesnt accept credit cards. --Laura Loftus

For years the locals have enjoyed M.J.'s culinary genius. Every meal is an experience. Let your tastebuds explore something more than Prime Rib and T-Bones. A favorite lunch of mine includes her curried turkey salad sandwich and a side salad of baby mixed greens. Not accepting credit cards should not pose a problem since there is a Wells Fargo located 1 block south and a U.S. Bank located 2-3 blocks southeast of this wonderful establishment. After dinner entertainment can be found at Dublin Square two doors down from the Corn Exchange for individuals seeking live music in a smoke-free atmosphere.

The Corn Exchange is hands down the best restaurant in Rapid City. Having travelled extensively, our knowledge of fine restaurants places this one in the top percentile. The food is always unique, prepared superbly, and the service is very relaxed in a hometown kind of way.
