Awsome

Penny lane is a charming, authenticly English pub in downtown Richmond. The actual restaurant is much better looking than the picture, and about a block from the Times Dispatch building. Once inside, you are greeted with an English telephone booth, the faces of the Beatles tiled on the floor and a boutntiful supply of traditional english décor. Downstairs is the bar and dining area, and upstairs are pool tables and a dart board, complete with mini-bar. The restaurant is very child friendly, and their menu will please any pallette. My favorite is the Steak and Guiness Pie. Also, many salads are available, for those who are watching their weight... Despite what is often said about the English and their cooking, this food is well worth its fare. The highest menu price is about $18, while many items are about $10. The walls are plastered in UK memorabilia, and European soccer is almost always on. The average crowd consists of business-people, families, college-aged people, and pretty much anyone else who lives in the city. Tuesday nights are quiz nights, and some other times during the week, there are karaoke contests. Be sure to watch for the 70-yr-old woman who sings in the contests! From the wisecracking owner, to the English bar attendant, Penny lane is an overall best bet for a funfilled night on the town.

Love the place, Terry always makes time to say hello, and at lunchtimes (on the days I can get there) I enjoy talking about home with Helen. Plus, there's a waitress there who loves Michael Owen, it all adds up to make me homesick.
