You'll find Alley Katz between 17th and 18th streets, down the cobblestone paved alley -- 10 Walnut Alley, to be exact -- that stretches away from the famous Shockhoe Bottom Farmer's Market and in the heart of downtown Richmond's major club area. Since opening in 1997 in this memorable location, Alley Katz has been the forum for an array of music types, from rock, blues, jazz and punk to hip-hop, rap and techno music. Crowds line up to be a part of the action nearly every night here -- it's one of the only live- music venues in town, and caters to a diverse community of music lovers. Clientele is as diverse as the acts on stage. College students can be seen playing pool upstairs or munching a slice of pizza from the pizza bar at the club's entryway. Black leather is a frequent sight, as are dreadlocks. Tattoos and body piercings abound -- depending on who you come to see. The spacious, darkened music hall caters to expressive dress. Don't expect to find street parking, but there is public parking close by. This is the live music lover's dream in Shockhoe Bottom, no matter what kind of music you love.

I have no Complaints
By sagbsmom on 07/31/2007
I enlisted Alley Katz to help me with my daughters sweet 16 birthday party. They were great! Even the main managment personel got into it. They supplied pizza & drinks for all her friends. I supplied cupcakes (85) & wristbands which she handed out to whom she chose. The cost was next to nothing compared to most 16 parties. My daughter could not have been more satisfied! She was the center of attention that night at the club & loved every second.

The Worst Sound Man in RVA
By candystrva on 01/28/2006
I manage a local rock band that plays often. This club provides bands the worst sound in Richmond. You either bring your own sound and pay the owner to let you use your own guy or suffer with their poor quality guy. Loud doesn't mean better, it merely means loud. Try equalizing and getting a new sound man. Bring ear plugs.

Great place for live shows.....saw The Bouncing Souls and Casualties two years ago and the Kiss Army band a couple weeks ago....10 dollars a head, but not a great selection in lager.....
