Muther's 40 Union   

I haven't been to "Muther's" in several years, so my latest visit has been rather a shock. The place has slid downhill at an alarming rate. It looks dingy and shopworn, and the lavatory stinks like a sewer for several feet down the hall. The bartenders know the latest shots to pour, but ask for an honest-to-God Manhattan, Muddled Old Fashioned, or a Gibson and they blanch ( admittedly, they are getting a younger crowd ). Whatever they're using for Bloody Mary mix isn't very good, either. Their drag shows are decidely shopworn, as well, though the most amusing part of the evening was a drunken female impersonator who was in reality a woman! A dumpy, red-headed fag-hag with a bad dye job, she delighted in telling anyone who would listen that the drag queens ask HER for make-up tips! We were told she was a regular, but her antics did not make it well worth the price of admission. Lord, I miss the old Jim's!

Once a charming nightclub, "Muther's" has descended into becoming a full-fledged dive ( after several changes in management ).Popular with the more outre members of the gay community, young rebels, and curious straight people out for an evening of slumming, "Muther's" has become the old-age home for Rochester's more pathetic drag queens. For the price of admission ( at which times the drink prices also go up - they know their suckers when they see 'em ), you can see the tired old antics of Pandora Boxx, Ambrosia Salad and others as they lip-sync to long worn-out tunes. While it is an experience to try ONCE, I would advise NOT going on a full stomach, and counting your change at the bar.
