Located in the historic Old Tavern Building, just minutes from the State Capitol, Biba Caggiano, celebrated chef, cookbook author, and TV personality, brings a bit of Italy to Sacramento. Savor the flavors of Biba's award winning authentic Italian cuisine in a friendly but refined ambiance, with attentive service that will make you feel instantly welcome. Enjoy spuntini with a cocktail or glass of wine in the lounge area, kick back and listen to piano music, or order a full meal at the bar or in the dining room. Only the finest and freshest ingredients are used and the food is truly Italian...house made lasagne Bolognese on Thursday and Friday and a different stuffed pasta dish every day. Osso bucco alla Milanese (veal shanks) or stinco di agnello (lamb shanks) are just some of the entrees you may expect to find. California and Italian wines are available to complement the food. And don't skip the dessert. The Tiramisu is to die for!

Sacramento's premier restaurant. Excellent food and usually good service, I do wish "informal" was not quite so informal! Shorts?? T-shirts?? Please no! Additionally, I find the TV in the bar highly offensive. The excellent pianists who play music suitable for such a restaurant should not have to compete with the idiot box. If you want TV stay home or go to a bar!

I read the encore section in the Bee on Sunday. Right on for Biba and her dress code convictions. It would be surprising, however, if a dress code could be enforced. Sacramento is not a dress code kind of town. Too often people will on a whim want to eat out, never a consideration to how their dressed. Just the old Sactown attitude that "If they don't like the way I,m dressed then screw 'em. I don't care what people think." This attitude is pretty wide spread. Here's hoping Biba can lead the charge in turning this town into something less white trashy. It's one reason I don't eat out formally in this town. The entertainment card, with all it's charitable attributes, also diminishes the local scene. If it doesn't make the user feel cheap, then that person is the consumate Sacramento diner that demands ranch dressing and ketchup for their filet mignon. Good luck, Biba.
