Rate and Write a Review This snug, romantic little restaurant is a surprise find in the rambling Sterling Hotel. An intimate dining space seating only 35 guests at full capacity, it's a great special-occasion choice for cozy atmosphere, attentive service and a memorable meal. Chef Jim Turknett favors light versions of classic, American dishes, like a spicy corn gazpacho, pork tenderloin wrapped in apricots served over Napa cabbage and roast chicken with corn on the cob and a pancetta and sage vinaigrette.

But then I am a mother of an employee.

I recently dined with a party of four here. We were out for a night on the town, from here we were headed for the theater. Decked in our finest attire, we decided to dine on the patio. With wine opened and a decision on the smoked salmon appetizer and the shrimp cocktail, the evening was off to a wonderful start. The appetizers were served and were wonderful......UNTIL....our waitress accidentally spilled the remainder of the corn salsa from the shrimp cocktail completely down the back of me, from my hair all the way to my waist. I want to emphasize...it was an accident...and I understand that. However, no manager was ever called to see that everything was alright. The waitress was horrified that this had occurred at her hand, and offered to pay for the cleaning of my dress. However, the mess in my hair was so bad that guests from another table helped to remove what remained of the mess, even after a trip to the ladies room to right myself. I returned from the ladies room, only to find that the mess on the area under my chair had not been cleaned up, and would not be for the remainder of the evening. The staff didn't offer to comp. us anything. Not even a dessert. To top it all off I left messages for the manager and it took him two days to respond to my calls. His response was apologetic, but unconcerned as he again offered to pay the cleaning bill. The food here is very good, however the management or lack there of will prevent me from dining here ever again.

We arrived for our reservation a few minutes early. It took close to 5 minutes to be acknowledged and seated = First Strike. My wife and I ordered Grey Goose Vodka "UP." We were delivered 2 exactly measured 1oz pours of room temp vodka in an unchilled glass = 2nd strike. I called our waiter over and pointed out the problems that I saw with the pour (in relation to similar drinks in the room) as well as the "warm" temp of both vodka and glass. He returned with not only a chilled glass but a healthy pour of vodka. On that move alone, the first two strikes were canceled out. He saved the night - literally. Girard, his name, proved to be a very knowledgable waiter with the table side humor that I feel is not overwhelming. We had the Crab Cake appetizer which was fantastic. My wife had the Chicken Napolean and I had the Seafood Lasagne. All I can say is, WOW! Do yourself a favor and dine here. A night that had the makings of an "uh-oh" turned into a delightful experience.
