The hole in the wall used to be primarily an end of the week venue where you could hear live music or DJs pulling out '80s retro, industrial goth and synth/pop sounds. Sanctuary (formerly Communion) is now a popular alt club that sits across the street from San Antonio College. The bands that enter are still, indeed, indie, but they are often legends like The Misfits or bigger up and comers, and they can show up any day of the week. The windowless red building along the short strip that houses mostly gay bars has clearly seen better days, but then again, so have the other nearby clubs that include Petticoat Junction, The Saint and Pegasus. The slight sleaze factor of the area has never slowed down the foot traffic on these few blocks, and a little bit of doom and gloom along the steadfast route probably won't either.

absolutely not.

This venue is cozy if you like Alice Cooper. Unless you have a wardrobe that compliments a Dick Tracy ensemble, maybe stay at home with the kids and rent Homeward Bound. I cannot comprehend the thought of coming here being classified as a good idea. I've noticed many reviews say this is the place to go if you "need to get drunk". If this ever became my place of choice then I would walk around drunk all the time, ya know? No smell, no tell.

SMALL BUT GREAT CONCERTS!!!!!!

I saw Mudvayne here and the show kicked ass, but the hospitality that the bar showed was also badass, the bar had enough staff and security to control the crowd also enough bartenders to serve and keep the crowd feeling good....

Cheap drinks and cheap times
By generalpatton242 on 01/12/2007
Drink specials: Great, especially on Thursdays. Entertainment: Boring and Amateur. Need to get drunk to have a good time, unless a good band shows up.

On the decline...
By verm242 on 01/08/2007
Regardless of new drink pricess that seem a bit attractive, the entire club is run down and smells of urine. The sound system for the live music area is blown, and the dance nights are non existent, except on Thurdays...which is not my type of party, regardless of the cheap drink specials!
