Bonham Exchange   

A landmark on the San Antonio dance scene, the Bonham is one of the most prominent gay dance clubs in the city, but it attracts straight people and the curious as well. The historic building used to be the home of a USO club ran by a Catholic community service organization back in the days of World War II. Before that, it was a sports center ran by a German association, whose visions included ''improving the mind through the development of the body.'' These days the former gymnastics and sports hall houses a 5-in-1 dance bar bedecked with swanky lighting, frequent drag shows and go-go boy entertainment. Potent drinks, stylish patrons and mixed music are the prominent lure here, where techno, house, hip-hop, R&B and the occasional Latin dance mixes bounce off the walls. Weekly theme nights and the much-anticipated weekends keep regulars coming in for more and newcomers waiting anxiously at the door. -- A. Onofre
