Rate and Write a Review It is indeed possible to do "Shakespeare in the Park" while indoors. The San Pedro Playhouse, located in San Pedro Park, saw such an event in 1973 with Romeo and Juliet done in a circus-style setting, no less. Since the 1930s, the Playhouse has been bringing quality theater to San Antonio. It is the nation's oldest city- built playhouse, and the architecture appropriately hearkens back to the days of Ancient Greece. Inside, the large lobby features moldings, a chandelier and an old-style box office reminiscent of the San Pedro Playhouse's early years. The Playhouse has presented a variety of well-known works such as Amadeus and Sunset Boulevard, just to name a few, while the smaller Cellar theater, which only seats about 60 (as opposed to the main stage's 400), houses the playhouse's experimental works. There is also a children's theater, so the San Pedro Playhouse offers entertainment for every age and taste. -- Vanessa Smith
