A local favorite for some time now, Le Reve brings upscale French dining to the picturesque River Walk. Requiring reservations and with a strict dress code, Le Reve is for those who desire a unique, leisurely and indulgent dining experience. Exuding a laid-back Euro-style feel, the restaurant is minimalist in decor, with little more than candlelight to brighten the room. Therefore, the atmosphere is modern, yet romantic and intimate. There are only about one dozen tables out front, with a few more private seating areas and some banquet rooms in the back. Specializing in contemporary French cuisine, the menu changes periodically. Each dish is made from scratch by Chef Andrew Weissman, so diners should expect a wait for a magnificent fresh meal. The locale is ideal for a dinner prior to exploring notable downtown venues or simply lingering over a romantic meal while viewing the River Walk. -- Vanessa Smith

Left wanting to go get something to eat
By KKL83 on 07/09/2008
We tried for several weeks before finally being able to get reservations, so we thought it must be good. We were very wrong. We went thinking that it was going to be the best experience ever. When our waiter came over and began explaining this to us and I told him that I do not eat scallops he told me that he didnt know if the chef would be able to accomidate me. So what if I was allergic to them? Crazy. The waiter also seemed very disgusted when we told him that we would not be doing the wine pairings with the food because are not big wine drinkers. When we finished eating...3 1/2 hours later....my husband was ready to go somewhere to get something to eat. We were both very hungry after spending over $200 for tiny doll food. We will go to Biga from now on when we want a good meal.

Outstanding !

I don't know if I would put this restaurant on a romantic spot list. but, the dining experience was first rate. All courses were wonderfully presented and service was spot on. An expensive dinner, but my wife and I were celebrating a special occasion and it was worth the ticket price. We recommend this restaurant highly if you are visiting San Antonio as we were. Excellent ! Best in the city by far.

A Stellar Experience
By Ronsell on 07/02/2008
CIA-trained Andrew Weissman's Le Reve is right up there with The French Laundry in Yountville, CA and L'Astrance, Taillevent and Les Ambassadeurs in Paris. It is really unfortunate that so many diners in San Antonio equate fine dining with a sixteen-ounce chicken fried steak and a jumbo order of onion rings. C'est la vie...
