Imagine a large, regal and classic-looking building. Now imagine a rock concert pumping inside. Or maybe there's a large group of recent graduates filing out through the wooden doors. Such is the atmosphere of the Municipal Auditorium; the happenings here are always changing, always eclectic. Since the auditorium's inception in the 1920s, many important names have used the Municipal Auditorium to display their talents to San Antonio. Such names that have taken the stage include Melissa Etheridge, Harry Connick Jr., Bob Dylan, The Black Crowes and more; the list seems endless. The Municipal also hosts some high school graduations, and provides banquet rooms for luncheons and conventions. The main auditorium is ideal for intimate performances since it seats less than 5,000. Near parks, churches and businesses, the opulent presence of the Municipal Auditorium helps represent the history and diversity of downtown San Antonio. -- Vanessa Smith
