This comfortably elegant restaurant lies within the restored 17th-century village of La Villita. Formerly a private residence, the building became the Fig Tree in 1971. Its understated, yet tasteful facade is reminiscent of a Mediterranean villa. One of the best dining experiences in the city will greet you when you enter its doors. Fine linen, elegant china and sparkling crystal are what you'd expect of a restaurant of this caliber -- but that's only the beginning. Dine in one of the stylish, temperature-controlled dining rooms, or for a uniquely San Antonio dining experience select a table on the vine-trimmed patio overlooking the river. Enjoy your meal to the soothing sound of the patio's several waterfalls. If you plan your evening right, you might even acquire the coveted table that has an excellent view of Arneson River Theatre. The menu, which includes a tender chateaubriand with Colbert and Bearnaise sauce as well as steamed live Maine lobster, is undeniably mouth-watering. Complete your meal with flaming desserts and coffees prepared tableside. Fig Tree's selection of more than 300 wines is also impressive. With good reason, Fig Tree has several times been the recipient of Wine Spectator's DiRoNA Award for Restaurant Excellence. -- Chris Jones

Waitress named Cristina
By boboso44 on 12/20/2006
Me and my buddy Eddie stopped in one day thinkin this place was Shilo's. They did the sandwiches ok but they didn't have split pea soup at all and the chips were green. Cristina was real nice though. She had that look about her that said "party with me real slow". She told us this joke about a rooster and a laborador retriever......but I can't repeat it here.

Went here with a group of 10 having made reservations the day before. Service is amazing, a person over your shoulder helping you at every moment. A little pricey but that was expected. The desserts are amazing as well.

Paulo and Wanda

My brother got married on the river last May. He was looking for a special restaurant with a good wine list. We took them there and boy were they impressed. The dinner, wine and dessert were excellent. We even got the table overlooking the river. It was quiet and cozy and just the perfect atmosphere! Since they came from out of state and not sure what to expect in San Antonio, The Fig Tree made their wedding most memorable.
