This comfortably elegant restaurant lies within the restored 17th-century village of La Villita. Formerly a private residence, the building became the Fig Tree in 1971. Its understated, yet tasteful facade is reminiscent of a Mediterranean villa. One of the best dining experiences in the city will greet you when you enter its doors. Fine linen, elegant china and sparkling crystal are what you'd expect of a restaurant of this caliber -- but that's only the beginning. Dine in one of the stylish, temperature-controlled dining rooms, or for a uniquely San Antonio dining experience select a table on the vine-trimmed patio overlooking the river. Enjoy your meal to the soothing sound of the patio's several waterfalls. If you plan your evening right, you might even acquire the coveted table that has an excellent view of Arneson River Theatre. The menu, which includes a tender chateaubriand with Colbert and Bearnaise sauce as well as steamed live Maine lobster, is undeniably mouth-watering. Complete your meal with flaming desserts and coffees prepared tableside. Fig Tree's selection of more than 300 wines is also impressive.
