Don't expect any non-fat California-liberal avocado-shiitake-with-imported-Swiss tofu-cheeseburger nonsense -- no sirree. No pretentious cutesy faux diner decor, nor blended drinks with catchy names can be found in this place: It's a dive bar (albeit a clean one) with a killer kitchen. You get burgers made from freshly ground beef and topped with cheese (white or orange, you pick) and grilled onions, and accompanied by mounds of fries and cold beer. Freebies include genuine smiles from the staff, genuine concern for your satisfaction, truly interesting people-watching and a refreshing respite from corporate dining hype. Not a kids' place, Rocky's is first and foremost a pub. While the bar serves 'til midnight, the grill shuts down by 10PM (with last order a half-hour earlier), but keep in mind that groveling has been known on occasion to get you a burger after 10:15PM. The fake-ID crowd should take note: While Rocky's has a casual and super-friendly vibe, don't expect to get an alcoholic beverage plunked down with your burger unless you're over 21. Business here is conducted old-school style: cash only.

Start your Saturday Right at 11:30 am.
By Mattscul on 06/27/2008
A Saturday morning with Div and Joe; catching an insult, listen to the newbees insult the Johnny Cash background music; watching the Big East Football, enjoying a rare burger, take the burger out of the red basket, place the fries under the burger as you eat and ask Joe what type of horseradish sauce is he holding behind the bar. Wash it down with a draft and watch the late comers, watch your every move to see if you are leaving the stool. Better service tell the bald guy you are a Yankee fan.. Walk out stuffed, graciously insulted, and a small buzz....Living in Manhattan and I miss starting my Saturday Right. ........(btw editors, step in here, this contest isn't a popularity contest, it is a burger contest to remotely compare Rocky's and In and Out is an insult to the community of burger lovers

I've lived in San Diego for years and lived just down the street from Rocky's. No doubt about it it's the best hamburger i've ever had and the pub is one of the friendliest including the bartenders. I've now moved to New jersey and sure do miss Rocky's both the pub and the best hamburgerr around

The Best I've Had
By geoofto1 on 06/17/2008
I'm from the L.A. area and had my first Rocky's 1/2 pound hamburger recently. There is nothing near as good in L.A. and I have been looking for 57 years. I walked in and asked for a food menu and was told, "don't have one, just two size burgers and fries, that's it." It has been proven time and time again that a place that does just one or two things tend to do them better and Rocky's is no exception. Now if they would only tackle hot dogs.........

We have been to Rocky's serveral times and find it to be the best cheeseburger in San Diego! The pub has a lot of character and the bartender's are great! Thanks to your great chef for incredible burgers and fries! We also appreciate a cold beer with it.
