High on a bluff overlooking the coast lies the majestic Cardiff by the Sea Lodge. Whether a visitor to San Diego or celebrating an anniversary or honeymoon, the Cardiff by the Sea Lodge has what you need for a romantic getaway. Take a stroll through the gardens or watch the sunset from the roof. No two rooms are alike and have names like the Lattice, the Country French and Victorian rooms. The Sweetheart room is the quintessential honeymoon site with a heart-shaped bed and jacuzzi. Breakfast is served on a terrace overlooking the ocean or in your room. -- A.H. Campen

Cardiff by the Sea not a b&

This should NOT be listed as a Bed & Breakfast. It, at best, is a glorified Motel. If you are looking for a 3 or 4 star Bed & Breakfast (the kind you would expect by paying $150 plus a night) please do not waste your money here. If you want someplace to crash close to the beach and aren’t into special room touches, comfortable beds, linens and a home cooked breakfast, this would be a decent choice. There was street parking only. A cleaning supply/bleach smell overwhelmed us as we entered our room and continued through our stay. The room, although clean was devoid of any charm, very dated and not comfortable/inviting. You are provided with the scratchy white towels you get in motel six. Plastic everything - plates, cups, utensils. There was no breakfast. We decided to go to a B&B and from our past experiences of B&B’s we were expecting more than what we got. We passed over the equally priced 4 star hotels for a home made breakfast and individual attention that we have gotten elsewhere. Unfortunately we didn’t find it here. Continental breakfast was all we got. Oj, coffee, one type of cereal, cut up donuts and muffins & a mixed (old looking) fruit bowl were the choices. They even ran out of foam coffee cups one day - so no morning joe. For the price of $150-250 a night this is shameful. The best part of this motel was its rooftop garden. It is a beautifully planned space with an attractive garden, a secluded jacuzzi, fountains, a fire pit, and quiet places to sit and enjoy the view of the ocean. It's too bad they didn't continue the charm and detail of the roof to their rooms, linens and breakfast. Even considering its nice rooftop views and proximity to the beach it was not worth the money by any stretch.

We loved it. Especially the access ramp for oldies. The depends service was very dependable.
