A speakeasy revival that captures the Roaring '20s' attention to style and good times, this lit-up bar accented by the mineral of the hot spot's namesake casts a cool, chic glow over a pulsating dance floor full of urbanites. While the music is loud, modern, DJ-driven energy, the drinks are old school and cunningly mixed. A Jack and coke gets served in a coffee mug, a la prohibition times. Any drink you want is available, but the house specialties demand the greatest appreciation. A Sexy Alligator has a dangerous bite, and the Mint-Tini is deliciously divergent from popular tropical recipes. The architecture's flowing lines are at once mellow and inviting of movement. Lounges and dance floors are drenched in sexy reds, cool creams and adorned with hanging art. Cushy chairs are grouped in circles, inviting conversations with friends, or face-to-face romantic dialogues. Onyx is operated in tandem with its upstairs kindred club, Thin. On Friday and Saturday nights, the cover charge gets you in both clubs.
