When the original Patrick's burned down, there was no question: They had to rebuild. A 25-year legacy could not be forsaken. Thus, Patrick's II was birthed, next door to the old space, which the Hard Rock Cafe now occupies. The remodeled bar is smaller, though it does not lack in flavor. In another time, another place, Patrick's II might not be considered a dive. Yet when placed in the heart of the Gaslamp among the scores of high flash-factor nightclubs, Patrick's II seems delightfully humble, a teensy Irish divey-pub with no need to show off. It doesn't take much for the bar to burst at the seams with patrons, especially when a blues act occupies an inner corner. Although dozens of blitzed Irishmen singing the blues might make an odd image, the resulting camaraderie is undeniable. It's that camaraderie that keeps urban locals and suburban visitors coming back, and back and back, without even a sidelong glance to the clubs just a block away.

Great Crew
By jjimpyatt on 01/21/2007
There’s nothing like visiting a bar--feeling like your in your home town hangout. Patrick’s is the place; this is a family-run-pub Larry and Mario are very personable, and inviting. Located in the hart of the Gaslamp district owner Larry poured us a shot and said Welcome-to-Patrick’s, He informed us that they have live music seven nights’s a week. The atmosphere is intimate and inviting I enjoy sitting on the front outdoor patio. Since the first time I stumbled across the pub was 1997; I make it a point to travel to San Diego several times a year to see not only one of the best cities in the US, but to visit my friends at Patrick’s II. The day bartender Gary is a Packers fan, but I won’t hold that against him! We all have are team, he is very energetic, if you are new his first words are you guessed it Welcome-to-Patrick’s. On Gary’s days off Kim keeps me smiling. The night bartender is big Mike this tall Irish guy always has his hand out gives me a big strong hand shake and says welcome-back. I enjoy spending a warm day sitting outside soaking up the sun and having a cold one. Gary always makes sure I have at all times! I have traveled to San Diego the last ten years to attend the Saint Patrick’s Day bash; the place comes to life with bands playing most of the day and night, if you ever wanted to see a true Irishman check out Mike and his long overcoat that is green-green-green, yes you are in an Irish pub!! I will be back this year; I know they will make my stay enjoyable. Enjoy and tell them T-Shirt Jim said Hi, They will know!!
