The minute you walk into Poseidon, you?ll be swept by the fabulous view. You couldn?t be closer to the sand and the beach than sitting at Poseidon on their beautiful outdoor patio. With such a spectacular ocean view, you?ll experience breathtaking sunsets and during the right season even catch a glimpse of the whales migrating up or down the coast. The bar offers a large circular firepit, which is nice on those chilly fall or winter nights. Off to the side of the bar is a split level dining room offering every table a panoramic view of the beach and the ocean. For over 33 years, Poseidon has delighted both local San Diegans and the tourists that love the beach. An excellent menu, a favorite with all the locals is designed to cater to all appetites and pocketbooks.

Too many different flavors
By nicsandiego on 08/02/2007
My husband and I went to Poseiden to celebrate our wedding anniversary (new to San Diego too - so hadn't been before). Valet parking was available for $3, but we managed to find a spot on the street outside the restaurant. We reserved in advance and were seated at a great table, right on the beach side, so had a great view. The restaurant was very busy and that accounted for the noise of people talking, but there was quite a good atmosphere. A glass of red wine was approx $10. We ordered the scallops and the duck for our entrees, which were about $24 per person. The presentation of the food was good, but the mix of different flavors on the plate was pretty bad, the duck had a raspberry and a ginger kiwi sauce beside it, which did not compliment the duck at alland there was also a serving of very bland yellow lentils. The scallops were accompanied by mash that was colored purple, so did not look very appealing! The food was quite disappointing really, we expected amazing food, but it turns out you are just paying for the great location and view. The desert menu was really boring and everything seemed to be accompanied by coffee sauce or coffee icecream and I hate coffee flavoring! Our waitress was very nice and the view was amazing but we will not be returning to the restaurant and wouldn't recommend it.

Ordered the banana brulee thinking it was like the creme brulee but it was just a scoop of ice cream with a sliced banana that had some carmalized sugar on the banana and it cost 7 bucks which i thought was a big rip off ! The food is o. k. but go next door to jakes for dessert!

Great place

The view from this restaurant is unforgettable, esp when you are seated on the heated patio. The clam chowder is the best we have had in So. California. Entrees were very good and more than we could eat.

We went to Poseidon last night for a nice dinner. We sat in the bar and ordered drinks and appetizers while we waited for our table. The drinks and apps arrived right as our table was ready. The hostesses wouldn't seat us b/c they were too busy chatting about a boy. The cocktail waitress was standing there asking for there help and the hostesses just looked at her and were very immature and snobby. Couldn't believe that one! The view was amazing, but the service was horrible. Our server was rude and brought "everything late" . I mean everything. We would order food, more bread, wine, ect... She either would not bring it at all, or bring it so late that we didn't even want it anymore. Secondly, the food was very bland. The portions were so small that my husband and I ate two baskets of rolls. Speaking of rolls, at one point the cloth from the roll basket was draped over the candle and I noticed it burnt slightly. The server gave us new rolls and didn't even change out the cloth. We were so unhappy with our service and meal. The entire experience was not worth it. We went next door to Jakes for desert because our server never brought the desert menu, even though she said she would. The service over there was way more up to par. Then when we walked back to the restaurant to pick up our car from the valet, the valet tenant was rude and basically asked for a tip. The only good service we got at Poseidon was the cocktail waitress
