Where do you go at 4AM in the morning when insomnia takes hold and the tummy is growling for sustenance like mom used to make? Rudford's, of course. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, this local landmark is a neighborhood favorite for good reason. Inside, the space is welcoming, with a long counter and ample overstuffed booths alongside large windows looking out onto bustling El Cajon Boulevard. The air is redolent with aromas that set the tummy grumbling, whatever you're in the mood for. Breakfast is served anytime, and includes choices like corned beef hash with eggs as well as hotcakes, omelets and egg scrambles, most accompanied with potatoes and toast. Lunch is an equally hearty affair, with hot and cold sandwiches, burgers, and salads. Lunch entrees are served from 11AM-4PM every day but Sunday, and include soup or salad, potatoes, vegetables and a hot roll. Dinner includes the above side dishes as well as dessert. (For the main course, think pork chops, chicken fried steak, roast sirloin and the like.) Come hungry and linger as long as you like.
