Typhoon Saloon   

Stepping over the threshold of Typhoon Saloon is like embarking upon an instant island vacation. Not the reggae-thumping, palm-tree kind so much as a Martha's Vineyard meets Venice Beach explosion. Some of the colorful murals on the walls evoke a breezy seaside getaway, while others play into the boisterous boardwalk party theme. Multicolored Christmas lights provide much of the lighting, and no matter how far inside one ventures, the sunny spring-break feeling never fades. The mammoth dance floor features four different levels for shimmying, or for staking out favorable vantage points to observe the shimmying of those below. The big stage is graced by personalities as diverse as runway models and mullet-coiffed cover bands, bringing in crowds the likes of which can only be found in one or two other PB venues. Luckily, the place is so big there's always room to groove. The adjacent Big Bertha's Fish Joint fries up fish tacos and other goodies until midnight, in order to satiate the king-sized appetites of the half-plastered. However, the fully plastered better watch out: Bouncers find a fierce pleasure in flexing their muscles, so stay out of their way unless you want a dishonorable discharge.
