There's Jack Daniels. There's Jim Beam. There's Wild Turkey, Maker's Mark and even Pappy Van Winkle. And now there's Whiskey Girl, a downtown club formerly known as 5ifth Quarter, and before that Buffalo Joe's. Named for a Toby Keith song ("She's my little whiskey girl / my ragged-on-the-edges girl"), Whiskey Girl doesn't cater solely to hard-drinkers. In fact, most of the patrons are the beer-drinking types, due to the low-priced happy hour drafts and football games on the giant TVs. Essentially, Whiskey Girl is a sports bar with style. Just because a place has an appreciation for games doesn't mean it needs to stink of spilled beer and man sweat. Meals are also stylish, fine examples being the feta and pesto-topped Apollo burger, and the breaded chicken breast stuffed with crabmeat, spinach, mushrooms and mozzarella. And just because a place defines sports as entertainment doesn't mean it scoffs at other forms. Many nights feature live music and cover bands, and Thursdays belong to the self-defined "most outrageous drag show in Gaslamp." Even the whiskey boys show up for that.
