Owned by the same family as the popular Buon Appetito in Little Italy and Pizzeria Arrivederci a block further down Fourth, Arrivederci is a haven of Italian comfort food. Rich red sauce -- the kind that takes all day to prepare just right -- greets you at your table with fresh-baked bread. Forget the trend of pouring olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping your bread; take a piece and dig into the bowl of that heavenly sauce. Order a bottle of Sangiovese to get you in the mood, then dive into a captivating menu that, like a good book, you won't want to put down. Light and refreshing beef carpaccio gets a smack of peppery spice from arugula. Pasta lovers, welcome home: You could daydream about dishes like their farfalle with salmon in vodka pink sauce and fettuccine bel paese tossed in mushroom-brandy sauce. The boisterous atmosphere and closely spaced tables may not be the best opportunity to promote romance, but if you are looking for a place that feels like a family-stocked Southern Italian home, this is it.

The headline says this restaurant is in Hillcrest, but the map shows it in National City. Where is it?

I was interested in taking visiting family to an italian spot in SD. All of the pastas were delicious and all of us walked away from a very enjoyable meal :)

The service was pushy and rude. We are from Italy and can tell you the food here is very overpriced and overrated. It was too oily and tasted very old, not fresh. We felt sick afterwards. I even found a piece of plastic wrapper in my pasta dish hidden in the sauce. Overall, an absolutely terrible experience. Save your money.
