With the venerable Phil's BBQ only a few miles down the road, it was pretty gutsy to open another barbecue takeout spot in Hillcrest, but Baby Back Jack's comes at the neighborhood with a "we aim to please" attitude and slow-cooked racks of ribs slathered in the house's proprietary sauce. The menu's small, but is packed with filling items like roasted chicken, pasta salad, baskets of fries, burgers (including a Hawaiian one with pineapple on top) and a chopped pork sandwich covered in barbecue sauce. The Double Dog is actually two hot dogs stacked and covered with barbecue sauce, grilled onions, shredded cheese, mustard, ketchup and pickles (there's a drug store down the street for antacid tablets). If all that meat sounds a little heavy for you, try one of Jack's salads ... with meat. The chopped salad combines romaine lettuce with chopped prime beef and garlic dressing.

The last two times that we went for 'takeout' at Jack's service was terrible and both times the orders were wrong. And, of course we didn't discover this until we returned to our place of employment. This last time I called and the order person said that I should have verified the order! What nerve! He charged us for the order that was placed and gave us the wrong items! I was going to go back for a refund this time, but just decided that we will never go back.

What???

How on earth did this place even make the list? I went in there when they first opened and have never been back. I couldn't smell BBQ when I stepped in and even when I was driving the meal home I could not smell it. When I taste it I knew why. It was the blandest tasting gruel of a BBQ I had ever tasted. It needed all kinds of salt and I had to add Jack Daniels Sauce to make it even edible. I do not reccommend this place to anyone who knows what BBQ should taste like.
