Bar Dynamite   

There are no lasers, no video wall. There's only one small dance floor on a single level. None of the flashy trappings of the downtown megaclubs are there to draw people in, and none of these facts can stop Bar Dynamite from going off as explosively as anyplace else. No cover most nights proves that there actually are places in San Diego that don't pretend to be too cool or exclusive for their customers. From the moment you walk in, you know this is going to be a fun night. Everything is as red as a stick of TNT. Old-school record jackets are hung over the bar, each one reflecting the volatile theme, from bands with names such as Explosion to (who knows where they found this) a Jimmy Walker album aptly labeled 'Dyn-o-mite!' The bar features house and touring DJs, each spinning a different type of music. Funk and old-school grooves give way to indie rock and hip-hop. If you get in early enough, you can mingle with the locals who call the dive home, but after the party starts, conversations are all body language as the whole room becomes one thumping, grooving mass.
